This gothic-style game has plenty of H.P Lovecraft vibes as players battle through dungeons with their collection of heroes who can succumb to their insanity and gain negative traits or even die from madness. It first launched for PC but has since been released on PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and iOS. Now that I’ve planted the idea, I’m looking forward to seeing an adorable corgi hellhound skin hitting the workshop soon.2016's Darkest Dungeon is a role-playing dungeon crawler game made by Red Hook Studios. The devs have also released a handy modding guide to help get you started. If you’d like to try your hand at modding, Red Hook is encouraging everyone to join the Darkest Dungeon Steam Workshop Group. It’s probably pertinent to mention that I have zero modding abilities so this is more of a whimsical musing than anything. Seriously, why hasn’t anyone done this yet? Aren’t things dark and foreboding enough already? Let’s lighten up the mood a little with these adorable little savages. Clearly, it’s time to correct this oversight. There is an opportunity here that everyone seems to be overlooking.

And yet I can’t shake the feeling that something is missing. Since the announcement, the modding community has been hard at work creating new characters, tricked out trinkets, and visual overhauls. Thanks to the success of early access and their dedicated community, the studio was able to move forward with their plans for mod support anyway.

While the crowdfunding campaign was hugely successful it fell just shy of the $350,000 mod support stretch goal. It’s been a few weeks now since Red Hook Studios unveiled Steam Workshop support for their Kickstarted, gothic roguelike, Darkest Dungeon.
